Frequently Asked Questions

Everything we get asked about Texas permits, our $250 service fee, timelines, and how we work. If your question is not here, call us.

Getting started

Do I need an account before I can order?

No. You can order as a guest. After your payment is confirmed we email a receipt and a secure link to set up a portal account where you can track status and exchange documents. Activating the portal is optional — we work your order either way.

How do I know which service I need?

If you operate a food truck, trailer, or other mobile unit, you want our food truck permit service. If you run a fixed location such as a restaurant, bar, gas station, or convenience store, you want general food permit assistance. If you are serving or selling alcohol at an event, start with our temporary alcohol event eligibility check. If you are still unsure, call us and describe your business.

What information do you need from me?

To start: your business details, what you operate, where in Texas you intend to serve, and your contact information. Documents come later, and we tell you exactly which ones apply to your situation rather than sending a generic list.

Can you help if I am already operating without a permit?

Yes, and you should tell us up front. It is a common situation and it is fixable, but it changes how we prioritize the filing. Note that we do not provide legal advice; if there is an active enforcement matter, speak with an attorney.

Pricing and payment

What does the service fee cover?

Our review of your information, identification of the correct authority and permit type, preparation and submission of your application, correction and resubmission if the agency returns an error, inspection-preparation guidance, secure document handling, and support from our in-house team until the permit is resolved.

What is not covered?

Government, inspection, licensing, filing, and late fees. Those are set and collected by the applicable authority and are paid directly to them. We never mark those up.

Is the fee per permit or per business?

Per permit-assistance order. If you need multiple applications, each is a separate order. Call us first and we will confirm how many you actually need.

Do you take coupon codes?

Yes. There is a coupon field at checkout, and codes are validated by Stripe when your payment is processed.

How do I get a receipt?

A receipt is emailed automatically after your payment is confirmed, and it is always available in your portal under the order.

Timing and process

How fast do you start?

We begin processing your completed application the same business day. If something is missing we will contact you, and processing begins once the application is complete.

How long until my permit is approved?

That is controlled by the licensing authority, not by us. Government review and approval commonly take up to roughly 30 days, and longer where inspections or plan review are involved. We cannot guarantee that an agency will act within any specific window, and we will not tell you otherwise.

Can you get my permit approved in one day?

No, and neither can anyone else. We begin processing the same business day, but approval belongs to the government. Be cautious of any service that promises a one-day permit.

What happens if my application is rejected?

We correct and resubmit it, at no additional service charge from us. Your order moves to the Error — Resubmitted status in your portal with a note explaining what came back. Government fees for a resubmission, if any, are separate.

Will I need an inspection?

Often, yes — particularly for mobile food units with on-board preparation and for restaurants. We tell you what the inspector will be looking for so you are prepared. Inspection scheduling is controlled by the inspecting authority.

The guarantee

What exactly is guaranteed?

Permit approved or your service fee back. If your permit is not issued and you met the eligibility and cooperation requirements, we refund our service fee.

What are the cooperation requirements?

You must be legally eligible for the permit, provide complete and accurate information, submit documents on time, pay applicable government fees, follow our instructions, and cooperate with inspections and government requests.

Are government fees refunded?

Not by us. Government, inspection, and late fees are paid directly to the authority, and any refund of those is up to that authority under its own rules.

Portal, documents, and security

What can I do in the portal?

Track the status of every order with a full timestamped history, read and reply to messages from our team, upload documents we request, download your permit when it is issued, view receipts, and manage your account security.

How do I upload documents?

Sign in and go to your order or the uploads page. We accept PDF, JPG, PNG, and DOCX files. You do not need to email documents separately.

Are my documents secure?

Yes. Files are stored privately outside the public web root, never at a guessable address. Downloads require you to be signed in, are authorized against your account on every request, use short-lived links, and are logged. If you upload a replacement, the earlier version is retained for our staff rather than destroyed.

What if I forget my password?

Use the forgot-password link on the sign-in page. We email a single-use link that expires shortly. Our staff can trigger a reset email for you after verifying your identity, but no one here can see, choose, or tell you your password.

About the company

Are you a government agency?

No. Food Permit Experts is an independent permit-assistance service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, or any other government agency.

Are you a law firm?

Throughout the state, including Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, and the smaller communities and unincorporated areas in between.
